Studio

EVVA Antoniou Studio is a personal creative practice exploring the relationship between material, form and human experience.

Working across objects, writing, research and design, the studio investigates how ideas can be explored through making. Rather than being defined by a single discipline, projects begin with questions and develop through experimentation, observation and reflection.

The practice is rooted in architectural thinking, yet extends beyond the scale of buildings. Whether through objects, material studies, photography, writing or research, each investigation explores how materials, places and designed environments shape the ways in which we experience ourselves and the world around us.

Background

I am an architect working between the UK and Greece, with a background spanning architectural design, construction and design management. I studied architecture at the University of Plymouth and completed my professional qualification at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. I am a UK-registered architect with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and am also registered with the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE).

Over the past decade, my professional experience has moved between architectural practice, property development and construction, working across projects from early design through to technical delivery and construction. This has given me an understanding of the built environment from both its conceptual and practical dimensions.

Working within construction has particularly influenced my approach to design. Seeing ideas translated into physical reality through materials, fabrication, technical constraints and collaboration has reinforced my interest in making as a form of knowledge. It has also encouraged an approach that moves between conceptual thinking, technical understanding and practical experimentation.

Alongside professional practice, my interests have increasingly developed towards teaching, research and independent creative work. I am particularly interested in the potential of design to function not only as a means of producing environments and objects, but also as a way of asking questions, generating knowledge and shaping human experience.

My current work explores the relationship between architecture, pedagogy, ecology and making, with a particular interest in how environments can become active participants in learning and in how design can help us develop more attentive relationships with the places and systems we inhabit.

Practice

The studio is organised around ongoing investigations rather than fixed disciplines.

Objects of Form explores sculptural objects and jewellery through abstract geometry, material experimentation and the relationship between form and the body.

Field Notes documents observations, experiments and reflections emerging from making, travel, architecture, landscape and everyday experience.

Writing & Research develops ideas through essays, visual studies and longer-form investigations into architecture, ecology, learning, materiality and place.

The boundaries between these areas remain deliberately open. An observation may become a drawing; a drawing may become an object; an object may lead to a written investigation. The studio provides a space for these connections to develop.

Approach

The practice values experimentation as a way of thinking.

Sketches, models, prototypes, failures and reflections are documented alongside completed work, recognising that understanding often emerges through the process of making rather than being established in advance.

EVVA Antoniou Studio is therefore both an archive and a laboratory: a place to think through making, to document curiosity and to explore how design can create meaningful connections between people, materials and the environments they inhabit.
